During a recent event, SM Entertainment unveiled their plans to debut the “ultimate boy group” featuring members from their already exisiting boy groups. The group would have: SHINee‘s Taemin, EXO‘s Baekhyun & Kai, NCT‘s Mark & Taeyong, and WayV‘s Lucas & Ten.
They also announced the name, which is SuperM and are planning for a US debut before going with Korean schedules. With their US debut only a few mere months away, international fans are hoping that SM Entertainment change the name of the group.
Why? Because if read the wrong way, SuperM actually sounds like the word “sperm”, or male ejaculation. English speaking fans can’t unsee it as the name.
Korean fans are also hoping for a change in name, saying that SM Entertainment had wanted a US debut but didn’t give much thought on the name. Many agree that SM Entertainment should have considered foreign nuances before naming the group.
Does nobody in SM speak English?
– Korean Netizen
SM Entertainment has not spoken up about these concerns, and there is no indication that the name will change.
