Here’s Everything We Know About YG Entertainment’s New Girl Group—Name, Members & Concept

YG’s new girl group is coming in the second half of 2020.

On February 27, YG Entertainment confirmed reports that they’re preparing to debut a new girl group within the second half of the year (between July and December 2020). Right now, the group’s name, concept, and members haven’t yet been officially announced—but early fans think they may have uncovered all three already. Here’s everything you need to know about what to expect from the new YG Entertainment girl group.

The Group’s Name

Right now, the most likely name for YG Entertainment’s new girl group is Baby Monsters. Back in January, eagle-eyed fans noticed that the company had filed a trademark for the name. Checking trademark applications was also how JYP Entertainment fans uncovered ITZY’s name way back in December 2018.

While trademarks can be used for many things other than new group names, it’s worth noting that Jisoo once revealed that BLACKPINK almost debuted under the name Baby Monsters. So, it’s likely that YG Entertainment wants to use the name for a girl group rather than another venture.

In February, YG Entertainment also trademarked BAEMON—this may be a nickname for the group, or it could be the name they’ll go by in Korea because of the easier pronunciation.

The Group’s Concept

Again, the group’s concept has not yet been announced. However, many fans are speculating that YG Entertainment is opting for a cute concept, similar to that of TWICE. Why?

There are a few reasons. For one, BLACKPINK is already dominating the girl crush space under YG Entertainment. Since BLACKPINK is still in its early years, it may not be wise for the company to debut another group with a similar concept, despite that being their usual angle.

On top of that, YG Entertainment’s new boy group, TREASURE, is due to debut shortly. Many have speculated that the group will have a softer, more youthful image than previous YG Entertainment boy groups—as supported by their song “Going Crazy”. As such, a lot of fans believe the new girl group will have a similarly soft touch.
