Let’s take a trip back to 2019, the year of MAP OF THE SOUL: Persona and BTS’s LOVE YOURSELF stadium tour. On June 23rd, BTS was nominated for several awards at The MTV Millennial Awards (MIAW).

Here, BTS won the “Explosion K-Pop” award. Jungkook also won the “Instagrammer Global” award, beating out Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Shawn Mendes, Shawn Mendes, and more. The winner was chosen through poll voting on Twitter, the MIAW website, and of course, Instagram

The account that won, however, (@bts.jungkook), was actually a fan account dedicated to reposting Jungkook content! At the time, it had 6 million followers, more than many official Instagram accounts.

Fast forward to 2021. In just 24 hours, Jungkook’s official account has gained over 19 million followers! If his account is nominated at the MTV Millennial Awards, Jungkook will most likely face his toughest opponents yet — his own members!
