BTS’s Jimin-Created BT21 Character CHIMMY Once Photobombed Tom Holland—Here’s The Story Behind The Photo

CHIMMY just wanted a picture with Spider-Man…

British actor Tom Holland, best known for portraying Marvel Studios‘ friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, doesn’t initially seem to have much connection to the world of K-Pop…

Although he and BTS‘s maknae Jungkook have gotten some comparisons.

The first is that ARMY low-key believe Jungkook could be the web-slinger too.

They also both have an affinity for banana milk.

Tom did do a little cover of “Dynamite” a while ago, along with other A-list celebs…

Still, there’s one more unexpected connection that he has, specifically to BTS.

Recently, photos resurfaced of Tom Holland’s trip to South Korea two years later…

In 2019, he visited the capital of South Korea for the press tour of Spider-Man: Far From Home, the sequel to the 2017 film Spider-Man: Homecoming.

The film had its Seoul premiere on July 1, 2019. He was there for it with his co-star Jake Gyllenhaal.

At the airport, Tom was photobombed by none other than Jimin-created BT21 character CHIMMY from the band’s collaboration with LINE FRIENDS.

ARMYs were surprised to see the yellow-hooded puppy in a photo with the actor. It’s an unexpected meeting of two fandoms.

The story behind the photo is simple. Back then, BT21 had teamed up with Incheon Airport as their creators BTS were and are extremely popular. You would be able to see them on luggage carts…

In 2018, when the collaboration was first launched, the group had just made history, becoming the first K-Pop group to chart on Billboard‘s The Artist 100 chart as well as Hot 100, among other accomplishments.

So, to capitalize off of the group’s international success, BT21 was everywhere at the airport with the goal of attracting tourists. During this time, there were even adorable promotional videos featuring all of the characters.

While it’s been a couple of years now, the Tom Holland photos seemed to resurface after the BT21 crew unexpectantly photobombed some more A-list celebrities just this week.

On November 2 (EST), the fashion brand Gucci held a fashion show in Hollywood. While it was a star-studded event attended by worldwide acclaimed celebrities, no one could outshine the UNIVERSTARs BT21! Variety shared that certified ARMY herself Lizzo snapped photos in front of the LINE FRIENDS store with COOKY, KOYA, and SHOOKY.

Another Marvel star Gwyneth Paltrow and fellow actress Dakota Johnson also snapped photos in front of the store with TATA and RJ!

They also have a connection to BTS in some way. British rock band Coldplay‘s Chris Martin is the ex-husband of Paltrow and current partner to Johnson. It is said that his band’s collaboration single with BTS “My Universe” is inspired by Johnson!

If anything is for certain, though, it’s that BT21 are truly becoming universal superstars just as expected! They do take after their dads, after all.
