YG Entertainment Responds To Accusation That Nurses Were Sexually Objectified In BLACKPINK’s “Lovesick Girls”

YG Entertainment revealed their stance on the controversy.

In light of BLACKPINK‘s worldwide popularity following the release of their new MV, “Lovesick Girls”, the Health and Medical Workers’ Union of Korea demanded that YG Entertainment take appropriate measures for sexually objectifying nurses in one of the scenes of the MV.

The scene in question showed Jennie dressed up as a nurse, but the Health and Medical Workers’ Union of Korea stressed that such representation of nurses is detrimental to those who actually work in the field.

And YG Entertainment addressed the criticism, stating that sexual objectification was not their intent.

Regarding the scene that shows a nurse and a patient, it simply reflected the lyrics, ‘No doctor could help when I’m lovesick.’ There was no other intention behind it, but we are greatly worried about the distorted perception of it.

YG Entertainment also asked that viewers perceive their MVs as a type of independent art and stressed once again that they did not intend to hurt anyone.

We ask that you perceive our MVs as a type of independent art, and if you can understand that each of the scenes were simply representative of the lyrics, we would greatly appreciate it.

Regardless of their original intention, YG Entertainment is in discussion regarding the need to edit the particular scene.
