Produce 101‘s PD Ahn Joon Young and CP Kim Yong Bum have been sentenced to prison for their involvement in the vote rigging scandals plaguing the series.
In the first sentencing trial, the Seoul Central District Court sentenced CP Kim Yong Bum to 20 months in prison, and PD Ahn Joon Young to two years in prison, both without probation. In addition, another Produce 101 producer known as “Lee” and 5 entertainment agency officials were fined for their involvement.
The defendants are guilty of all charges against them. We cannot take lightly that as the main producer, Ahn Joon Young was actively involved in the crime.
— Seoul Central District Court
Prosecution initially was seeking a three year prison sentence for both Ahn Joon Young and Kim Yong Bum, as well as a 36.99 million KRW fine for Ahn Joon Young. They also demanded a two year prison sentence for “Lee” and one year for the entertainment agency officials due to breach of trust.
Both Ahn Joon Young and Kim Yong Bum spoke up about their actions.
I lied to myself.
I feel pathetic and resentful thinking that the efforts of the trainees and the staff members would not be in vain when [the show] produced good results. I will live with that truth and feeling of how my unjust actions were bound to collapse down on me and the consequences in my heart.
— Ahn Joon Young
I would like to sincerely ask for forgiveness from the people and trainees who were hurt by me, and also from my company, seniors, and juniors who I have brought dishonor upon.
— Kim Yong Bum
