Park Seo Joon Is Believed To Play Bisexual Character Noh-Varr In The Marvel Cinematic Universe—Here’s Everything You Need To Know

Noh-Varr (a.k.a. Marvel Boy) is considered one of the sexiest comic characters!

Spoiler Alert

This article reveals plot details of a current movie or series.

Since it was announced that actor Park Seo Joon would join the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as a cast member for the Captain Marvel sequel, The Marvels, fans have been anticipating more updates.

Since then, there has been little to no information regarding who he would play. Reportedly he may just be another Marvel.

There have been speculations on who Park Seo Joon was cast as. One common guess has been Korean-American hero, Amadeus Cho. Amadeus Cho is the son of Helen Cho, a doctor who previously appeared in Avengers: Age Of Ultron and was played by actor Claudia Kim (also known as Kim Soo Hyun).

Yet, Amadeus Cho is a young character who succeeded Bruce Banner as The Hulk. So, he is not a Marvel, making this possibility unlikely.

The other common guess has been Noh-Varr, and now it seems more plausible than ever that this is, in fact, Park Seo Joon’s character in The Marvels.

More and more updates regarding Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been announced as the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con was held this weekend.

A popular Marvel fan page on Twitter, Marvel Updates, also shared an update recently reporting that Park Seo Joon is to play Noh-Varr in The Marvels.

Noh-Varr has gone by a couple of names, such as Protector but most commonly Marvel Boy. Like Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers, played by Brie Larson), he is a Kree (albeit from another universe) and one of the Marvels. He is depicted as Asian in the comics.

Noh-Varr is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics who most commonly uses the codename Marvel Boy. He first appears in Marvel Boy #1 (Aug. 2000) and was created by writer Grant Morrison and artist J.G. Jones. He later appeared in the Civil War: Young Avengers/Runaways and the New Avengers: Illuminati limited series. After his appearance in Secret Invasion, he joined the Dark Avengers as Captain Marvel. He was a member of the main Avengers team as Protector. As Marvel Boy he was a part of the Young Avengers, West Coast Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy.

Noh-Varr is not only a powerful hero with abilities of “eugenic/Microtech Enhanced Kree physiology” and “access to advanced extra-dimensional technology.”

But he is also a sex symbol…

Noh-Varr himself was ranked in 2013 as #2 on ComicsAlliance’s list of the ’50 Sexiest Male Characters in Comics’. In 2014, they praised the willingness of the Young Avengers creative team to go back to roots of the character and portray him as an actual sex symbol, which they considered a rarity for male superheroes.

Yeah, this character definitely fits Park Seo Joon.

Noh-Varr provides not only Asian representation in Marvel Comics but also LGBTQIA+. He is canonically bisexual but possibly pansexual.

Noh-Varr is openly bi, and has had a relationships with Kate Bishop (the young Hawkeye) and flirted with young Loki (it’s complicated). As well as being a toughnut Kree, he’s also enhanced with insectoid DNA – kind of an alien version of Spider-Man.

Noh-Varr is unlike many male superheroes in that he’s portrayed as an outright sex symbol in the same way many female heroes are. The MCU films have happily focused on the sexiness of their male stars, but Marvel Boy could begin a new generation of young, hot, queer characters. A movie or series for the Young Avengers could be a big hit with teen viewers, and Noh-Varr’s love of Earth music could give it the feel of an updated Guardians of the Galaxy.

Last year, Marvel Comics added the god Hercules to The Guardians of the Galaxy as Noh-Varr, too, had joined. In Guardians of the Galaxy #6, they also revealed that they were dating each other.

The Greek god brings muscle and might to their current mission, but as has just been revealed in the team’s comic… Hercules has also ignited a brand new romance with Noh-Varr, better known as Marvel Boy.

Previously, Noh-Varr had dated his Young Avenger teammate Hawkeye (Kate Bishop).

Later, he was on the West Coast Avengers with Kate and her then-current boyfriend, Fuse (Johnny Watts). By the end of that series, Johnny and Noh-Varr appeared to be developing a thing for each other, leading to Kate exclaiming, ‘Have I ever dated anyone straight?’

Interestingly enough, both of these Noh-Varr love interests have recently been introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Hailee Steinfeld played Kate Bishop in the 2021 Disney+ series Hawkeye

Emmynominated actor Brett Goldstein surprised viewers by appearing as the god Hercules in the post-credits scene for Taika Waititi‘s new MCU film Thor: Love and Thunder.

So, it’s more likely that Park Seo Joon is the MCU’s Noh-Varr, and fans couldn’t be more excited about the possibilities!

Marvel fans are thrilled to see the LGBTQIA+ representation on screen finally.

If it’s true that Park Seo Joon is Noh-Varr and ends up with Hercules as fans hope, it wouldn’t be the first time Seo Joon had an onscreen kiss with another man. Previously, he kissed fellow Wooga Squad member Choi Woo Shik in the 2012 sitcom Family when they were just rookies.
