The Investigation Into Jang Ja Yeon’s Suicide Case Has Been Concluded With A Final Report

The case has been concluded and final recommendations have been given.

The reinvestigation of Jang Ja Yeon’s suicide case has been concluded by The Investigative Team of Past Affairs.

Jang Ja Yeon who is most famous for her role in Boys Over Flowers committed suicide in March 2009 and left behind a letter which detailed the sexual abuse she faced at the hands of numerous powerful business and media figures. During the original investigation, only her agency’s CEO and manager were charged with defamation and assault.

The investigation was reopened in March 2018 and it has now concluded on May 13th with a final report being submitted.

During the course of the re-investigation, over 80 people were interviewed. A Chosun Ilbo reported was indicted and the CEO of TV Chosun was questioned. Yoon Ji Oh has been at the centre of this case, she gave testimony in court supporting Jang Ja Yeon’s claims that she had been sexually assaulted and talked extensively to the media regarding the case.

Due to the passing of the statute of limitations on this case, Yonhap News has reported that it will be very difficult for the team to progress in any meaningful way. Despite this, the final report is said to contain a recommendation for a thorough investigation of the CEO of Jang Ja Yeon’s agency as evidence has been found which proves that he forced her to entertain.

SBS’s 8 O’Clock reports that the final report contains a list of issues with past investigations and media pressure put on the case by the Chosun Ilbo.

The final decision on whether another investigation will take place lies with the Ministry Of Justice’s Committee of Past Affairs and they plan to announce their decision by May 20th.
