A current report correlates the current increase in hotel reservations to huge concerts held by Korean artists specifically EXO.
On March 13th, Chosun published a report about hotels and hostels in the Gangnam area of Seoul, South Korea experiencing a boom, despite the off peak season, due to the recent concert events held by EXO for their second concert, EXOPLANET #2 – The EXO’luXion.
As EXO performed at the Olympic Park for a five-day performance on March 7th, 8th and 13th to 15th, a total of 70,000 of fans were expected. 2,000 international fans from at least 24 countries of which were able to secure packed tours arranged by SM Entertainment, while at least 30 buses were reserved to transport fans from nearby provinces. This does not include fans who made their own arrangements to visit the city in time for the group’s concert.
A hotel also signed an agreement with SM Entertainment as they provided a special discount for fans booking with them while their rooms were decorated with a theme pertaining to EXO’s concert. The same goes to luxury hotels in the area who also offered discounts for guests with concert tickets with at least 70 rooms booked by fans from Japan.
However, it was revealed that local hostels and guesthouses near the concert venue received the biggest benefit after confirming that at least half of their guests booked of the weekend were in the city for the concert, further adding that they normally have international guests whenever there was a concert. fans who lived from nearby provinces also opted to stay close to the venue, leaving establishments to be almost full over the weekend.
K-Pop concerts are revealed to be the biggest influence in the sudden rise of hotel reservations in the Gangnam area as fans opt to stay close to the concert venue and entertainment agencies rather than other tourist destinations in Seoul.
Meanwhile, EXO is set to return with their comeback track tentatively set for March 30th. The first mysterious teaser image featuring member Kai was released earlier today.
