In the midst of Seungri‘s scandal, a writer claimed that the prostitutes working at Gangnam clubs such as Burning Sun are as young as primary school students.
Kukmin Ilbo recently reported on an interview of writer Joo Won Kyu (“Made in Gangnam”) who claimed that he witnessed what happens at the clubs himself and that what has been reported so far is just the tip of the iceberg.
Back in 2016, Joo Won Kyu worked as a delivery man and driver for Gangnam clubs in order to get an inside look for the book he was writing at the time.
Writer Joo revealed that the drugs, prostitution, and police collusion is much more severe than reported and that countless prostitutes solicited by these clubs are underage. He added that he even saw a prostitute who was only in grade 6, as young as 12 years old.
Writer Joo explained further by saying, “GHB is very common in clubs, and underage girls are fed such drugs and then forced to sell their bodies to upper-class men after tricking them into thinking they’re of age.”
What motivated Writer Joo to write about clubs in Gangnam was the interactions he had with runaway teenagers.
He confessed, “I interviewed around 90 runaway teenagers 4 to 5 years ago, and more than 80 of them said they wanted to work at a Gangnam club. The girls said they wanted to work as prostitutes and earn 5 million to 10 million won a month ($5,000 – $10,000 USD) and the boys wanted to become pimps.”
As a result, Writer Yoo looked into the matter further in order to find out why these kids wanted to work in Gangnam clubs, which led to his award-winning book, “Made in Gangnam” which was released in 2009.
