The MTV Movie & TV Awards 2021 took place in two parts: the main show, which took place at the Palladium in Los Angeles on May 17 at 10AM KST, and the “Unscripted part,” made up of all the awards for unscripted media (documentaries, reality shows, etc) took place the following day. This year’s hosts were comedians and actresses Leslie Jones and Nikki Glaser.

BTS’ 2020 documentary, Break the Silence: The Movie, was nominated for–and subsequently won–the award. Directed by Park Jun Soo and released in September 2020, the documentary takes us on and behind the scenes of their 2018-19 world tour, the Love Yourself World Tour. The 90 minute documentary encompassed footage taken over the course of 14 months and previously released on Weverse as Break The Silence. It won against numerous other artists, such as Billie EilishThe Notorious B.I.G., Taylor Swift and more.

BTS’ win was announced during the “Unscripted” portion of the show, with the Awards’ official Twitter page sharing a clip of the group thanking MTV and their fans, ARMY, and talking briefly about the world tour that Break the Silence: The Movie covered.

This is the second year the ceremony has included a Best Music Documentary award. The first year was 2018, where the award was taken home by Lady Gaga with her documentary, Gaga: Five Foot Two.

Congratulations, BTS!
