Gong Yoo is set to make a comeback to the big screen with the movie “Kim Ji Young, Born 1982”, based on the book of the same name.

On September 30, Gong Yoo was present at a press conference for the upcoming movie. At the conference, he revealed that as soon as the role was offered to him, he accepted it, stating:

After reading the scenario, I thought of my family a lot. I cried alone at home after reading it —Gong Yoo

He also revealed that immediately after reading the script, he called his mom crying, apologising for being a bad son and thanking her for all that she does for him.

“Kim Ji Young, Born 1982” is a film that tells the story of ordinary Kim Ji Young from childhood until adulthood, highlighting the subtle sexism that persists throughout the life of women in South Korea. Gong Yoo will play Jung Dae Hyun, the husband of Kim Ji Young (played by Jung Yumi).
