7 Celebrities Who Received Their GED While Pursuing Their Career

Who said it was easy to pursue both your career and school?

Everyone knows that being in the entertainment industry requires a lot of time and effort to keep up with one’s busy schedule and performing well. It is difficult to fully concentrate on academic activities while trying to keep up with album recordings, script readings, filmings, and recording sessions.

 

Some celebrities decide to drop out of school to focus on their careers and pursue a different way of earning their school diploma through a standardized test known as the GED (General Educational Diploma). The GED tests are a group of four subject tests which, when passed, provide certification that the test taker has their country’s level of academic skills.

 

1. BIGBANG’s Seungri

BIGBANG‘s Seungri dropped out of high school in order to join BIGBANG. After failing the GED test twice, he was able to pass the test and earn his high school graduation certificate in 2009.

 

2. Kim Sae Ron

Kim Sae Ron, who rose to fame in the movie Man from Nowhere with Won Bin, is currently working on her GED. When she’s not acting, she dedicates at least two hours out of the day to study towards earning the certificate.

 

3. Kim So Hyun

Due to her busy schedule, Kim So Hyun would frequently miss out on school. She didn’t like being a nuisance to her classmates or her teacher so she eventually dropped out of high school. Since dropping out, Kim So Hyun was home schooled by a variety of tutors and was able to pass the test and earn her high school graduation certificate.

 

4. Akdong Musician

Sibling musicians Lee Chanhyuk and Lee Suhyun also had to drop out of high school and middle school respectively to pursue their career as Akdong Musician. They were able to study for the respective certificates in between albums and successfully passed their tests on the first try!

 

5. Seo Shin Ae

Seo Shin Ae made her acting debut at the young age of 6. It was very difficult for her to attend middle school, and high school was out of the question. Therefore she chose to also be home schooled to pursue her acting career. She received a perfect score in English and due to her exceptional score, she not only was able to pass the test, but she was also accepted to Sungkyunkwan University School of Performing Arts!

 

6. Park Ji Bin

Another famous child actor, Park Ji Bin began studying for his GED immediately upon graduating from middle school. He felt that he was being a nuisance to his peers and teacher and it was also stressful for him to go to school. He was able to pass the test and successfully earn his high school certification diploma.

 

7. BoA

At the height of her fame, BoA was also struggling to balance going to middle school and pursuing her career abroad. As a result, she dropped out of middle school and immediately began receiving schooling from tutors in the comfort of her own home. BoA received her middle school GED 2 weeks after she dropped out of school, and even more surprisingly, she passed the high school graduation examination just 3 months after that!
