While SM Entertainment is one of the biggest companies in K-Pop, that doesn’t mean that all the idols under the company were willing to join right away. Some idols under SM Entertainment even were “begged” to join the company! Here’s a list of some K-Pop idols who were practically “begged” to join SM Entertainment.
1. Sehun (EXO)
Sehun got scouted by SM Entertainment when he was eating some tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) with his friends. When he was about to leave, a few casting managers from SM Entertainment started approaching him. However, Sehun was taught to not talk to strangers, so he ended up running away from the casting managers!
After around 30 minutes of running away, Sehun finally spoke with the casting managers. He eventually auditioned for the company and became a member of EXO!
2. Taeyong (NCT)
Taeyong was scouted on the streets by an SM Entertainment casting manager due to his insane visuals. However, Taeyong didn’t know much about K-Pop at the time and was hesitant on giving the casting manager an answer.
The casting manager later came back to Taeyong and bought him some toast. This was enough to convince Taeyong to audition for the company, as he now believed that the people at SM Entertainment were kind.
3. Minho (SHINee)
Minho got approached by an SM Entertainment casting manager when he was at a ski resort. However, he initially declined the casting manager’s offer.
This didn’t stop SM Entertainment, as Minho was later approached by another casting manager. Minho eventually gave in and decided to accept the casting manager’s offer.
4. Winwin (WayV)
When Winwin was first recruited by an SM Entertainment casting manager, he ended up giving them a fake phone number since he was skeptical.
However, this didn’t stop SM Entertainment, as they decided to give Winwin another offer after seeing his traditional Chinese dance performance at his school.
5. Sooyoung (Girls’ Generation)
While Sooyoung is no longer under SM Entertainment, she too was practically “begged” to join the company. She got approached by an SM Entertainment casting manager when she was at the mall. However, she initially declined the casting manager’s offer.
This didn’t stop the casting manager, as Sooyoung was given the offer three times in total! After the third casting offer, Sooyoung auditioned for SM Entertainment, and eventually debuted as a member of Girls’ Generation.
